Buddy Holly/MTV

The buddy holly article was very interesting. They were put in uncomfortable situations such as playing at the apollo. I know that this had to be nerve wrecking because the apollo theater has a ruthless audience. Its not like the audience that will give a curteous applause if the performance wasnt so great. Its an audience that will have no problem in booing if the performance is not up to par. I feel that they even though they were under alot of stress, such as following very detailed instructions that they were given, along with anxiety about the performances that they were going to distribute, they performed impressively. They didn't give up even though the audience didn't take their first performance well. They tried and kept trying until the audience gave them the acknowlegement that they wanted. I'm a musician myself. I couldn't imagine performing at the apollo because getting booed and/or critized witll hurt my feelings and possibly discourage me. Looking at the MTV video I realize that alot has changed over the years. On MTV nowadays you will find shows such as 16 and Pregnant, or Rob and Big, or Yo Mama and many other shows that have nothing to do with music. Not only MTV but also BET is the same way. They both used to be channels focused on nothing but music but for some reason it has changed and is less focused on music but more focused on reality television.

  1. As a fellow performer(after 10 years in a band, I'm barely a "musician"), I'd also be intimidated by the Apollo. As ruthless as those crowds can be, however, they also will show exuberant support for good performances.
