The reading on Buddy Holly shows that the access people have to records create high expectations from audiences who then see musicians live. People want them to sound the same, but usually a recording from a studio is going to sound different, better or worse, than a live show.

MTV/Buddy Holly Dowling
I agree with what most people are saying about how much MTV has changed over the years. I noticed also how much more music was actually being played back then compared to now on the channel that calls itself music tv. I think there are many reasons for this. Back then mtv made music visual and it was the first time that people had access to things like music videos. So then the channel was very popular for putting images with songs. Today however thats not a unique way to run a tv station, and would most likely bore people. Why sit around and wait for the videos you want to come on when you can just download them to your ipod or watch them on youtube? I think it makes perfect sense that mtv has drastically changed the way they run their station. mtv had to adapt to the fact that music videos are accesible in many different forms today and they will not keep an audience simply by playing music. Meanwhile their reality shows keep millions of viewers. I think mtv still has a right to be the music station because they expose bands or songs ive never heard of a lot of them time and get me interested in new music. For ezample on their shows when a song is playing they list the name of the song at the bottom of the screen, i dont know many channels which do that, and i think it is a clever way to keep their name as the music channel.

ReplyDeleteGood point - the demand for videos on TV just isn't what it once was. YouTube is probably a huge factor.
