MTV(Kyle Baker)
Before watching the clip and reading "as Mtv turns 10" I really didn't think of the longterm effects that it had on music. Obviously MTV was a big movement but you don't realize that it changed not only how people listened to music but how they started to create new music. I agree with what is said about dance and pop music by Jon Pareles. Pop music had a huge resurgence due to the fact it weighs heavily on dance. MTV made music more visual which helped progress the advancement of modern dance. It also enables the audience to get a feel for the beat. It also made music so much bigger of an industry because people weren't only listening to the music but they were now able to see it. This increased the entertainment value to music which lead to more and more artists making music videos. I believe that without MTV today that musicians wouldn't make nearly the money they do. I think that it also had some negative repercussions as well. I can remember being 9 years old and MTV would play spring break which was a bunch of college kids dancing around without clothes listening to for the most part hip hop music. In retrospect i look back and realize that I probably shouldn't have been exposed to the stuff i was because of MTV. MTV makes it more excess able for kids to see what is going on in the entertainment world.

Good discussion of MTV's effects on music and culture. It's hard to argue with the notion that music is, at the very least, more visual because of it.
